Decades of ACT research have made it clear: when it comes to college and career readiness, it’s not just the number of classes a student takes—it’s the content of those classes that matters most. Preparation for college or career requires solid, rigorous instruction in core subjects.
ACT Subject Tests are end-of-course assessments that rigorously measure students’ understanding of content and practices in each subject. The tests are derived from items and research on ACT Subject Tests, and have a score scale that links directly to the ACT. In addition to measuring whether students have mastered ACT course standards, these tests predict success in postsecondary courses.
Tests are available in the following subjects:
- ELA (English I and English II)
- Math (Math I and Math II)
- Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)
- U.S. History
